Things to do in Stockholm
Wandering around Stockholm’s Vasastan is always very pleasant if you have a bit of spare time. I was doing just that when I decided to “capture the autumn spirit” of the city a few days ago. If you know anything about Stockholm you have probably seen some of the characteristic colourful buildings. Now, they look amazing all year round but when they are combined with the beautiful colours the autumn nature offers then, in my opinion, it is something else.
One of the best places where you can enjoy a bit of nature in the middle of the city is Vasaparken. It starts in the wonderful area of Sankt Eriksplan which is easily accessible by virtually any means of transport. I believe Vasaparken has been at its place since the 19th century for a good reason. No matter if you are looking for a place for a nice walk, to spend some time with your children or just sit and read a newspaper there is always a perfect part of the park for you.
I started exploring the park from its western end. A nice little hill caught my attention from which I hoped I could take some nice pictures of Sankt Eriksplan. Well, I quickly ran on the hill and I must say the views were even better than I hoped. To prove my point, here are a few of my best autumn pictures of Sankt Eriksplan taken from the hill in Vasaparken.
It is true that while autumn in the park might offer some beautiful views it is usually a bit cold to sit on a bench and enjoy them for too long and that is certainly what this part of Vasaparken is best for. Now it is, therefore, time to move on and see the rest of it.
I am not quite sure if there has ever been anyone quite as impressed as I am by the playground in this park but I simply must talk about it. See, there is an actual truck there to play with. I mean, I am kind of old to play with it myself but how cool is that? And it is not just the truck, the entire area looks like every kid’s dream in the middle of city lovers’ heaven.
Even if you nor any of your loved ones plan to play with the truck you can still enjoy your visit to the park. You can simply walk around a bit, perhaps (secretly) watch others passing by and when you feel like you have had enough why don’t you continue by exploring the surrounding streets? If you ask me where you shall start the best answer I can give you is – look around and see which one you like the most. Then when you come to its end, look around and see which street you like the most. Repeat the process until you are too exhausted to walk down another street or until you have seen them all, but I guarantee you there is always more to see. Eventually, I recommend you to visit one of the cosy coffee shops in the area to finish your great wanders around the city with a great cup of coffee and a delicious cake or a cookie.
As always, the most important part of your tour is to keep your eyes wide open and look at places that you like, not the ones someone wants to show you.
